Chinese medicine seeks to restore and maintain health by balancing Qi, the vital energy of life, in order to promote the body's natural ability to heal itself. In this medicine, we look at everything in context and include every part as interdependent within the whole. Stress can be the cause of many health problems such as headaches, digestive problems, menstrual disorders and depression. This is why we focus on stress reduction as a way to improve your overall health and prevent future illness. We also treat pain conditions, allergies and respiratory conditions, infertility, insomnia and provide supportive care for cancer. Well-being is achieved not by fighting against disease but by cultivating harmony in our lives.

Our practitioners are licensed through the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice with Master's Degrees in Oriental Medicine and are board certified through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Ayurveda, Sanskrit for the “science of life,” is an ancient holistic preventative and healing science. The goal of Ayurvedic treatment is to provide an optimal environment for healing, as well as health maintenance, to take place. Ayurveda considers health in terms of a person's entire being, not simply the absence of disease.   A program designed for each person's unique needs may include lifestyle and eating adjustments, herbal formulas, body therapies, sound therapies, aromas, yoga and other modalities.

Dena Jackson enthusiastically shares her knowledge of Ayurveda with an added touch of humor. She studied Ayurveda on her own for years before receiving her formal training at the California College of Ayurveda. In addition to her practice, Dena teaches yoga, leads seminars on Ayurveda, yoga and meditation and serves on the Minnesota Ayurveda Association (MAA) Board of Directors. Pure Freedom Wellness Center shares space with the Institute of the Himalayan Tradition Yoga Center.

Wellspring Naturopathic Clinic was founded by Thomas Stowell, N.D. in 1978. The clinic was unique at the time, offering something virtually unheard of in the midwest - a wholistic family practice with services such as homeopathy, acupuncture, botanical medicine, spinal manipulation, natural prenatal care, home birthing, massage therapy, & nutritional counseling.

Helen Healy, N.D joined Wellspring in 1984, offering insights into the importance of diet and exercise for all of her patients. She was especially concerned about the health advice her female patients were not receiving from their regular health care practitioners. Sadly, Tom passed away in 1994. Helen Healy took over the clinic and caring for Tom's patients. Today, thirty-five years since its inception, Dr. Healy and Wellspring Clinic still offer a myriad of natural health options.

Dr. Healy received her B.A. in biopsychology in 1977 from Vassar College, and her N.D. degree in 1983 from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, and holds qualifications to practice in both Oregon and Minnesota. Helen is a past president of the Minnesota Association of Naturopathic Physicians and former Speaker of the House of Delegates to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She has appeared before both the Minnesota Health Department and the State Legislature as a spokesperson for Natural Medicine.
